Costa Rica's Liberia Airport Wins Award For Travellers

The Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste is the best terminal in Latin America and the Caribbean in quality of services to travellers according to the Airport Service Quality Awards. For the third consecutive year Liberia is the best airport in quality of customer service.

This recognition is provided for the Latin American and Caribbean regions in the two million passenger category.

The annual Airport Service Quality Awards recognize and reward the best airports in the world according to an ASQ Departure Survey and the ASQ Arrivals Survey. “These awards represent the highest possible accolades for airport operators and are an opportunity to celebrate the commitment of airports worldwide to continuously improving the passenger experience”, explains the Airports Council International website. ASQ is the only global airport survey based on measuring passengers’ satisfaction taken while they are at the airport.

The Liberia Airport received the award in the category of terminals with under 2 million passengers a year. This airport registered a total of 1,125,170 passengers in 2018.

ACI also awarded the award for the “Best Hygiene Measures in the region” which highlights the work carried out by the terminal during 2020.

ASQ Award bases the awards on surveys conducted directly with airport passengers.

In the specific case of the Guanacaste airport, aspects such as courtesy, help and efficiency of the check-in staff stood out.

“We are honoured because we are already international benchmarks not only for customer service but also for safeguarding the health of tourists,” said Jaramillo.

This airport is part of VINCI Airports that manages 45 airports in 12 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Courtesy, friendliness, efficiency of the staff as well as airport security and cleanness of the facilities were part of the aspects evaluated.

“This award recognizes the warmth of our personnel and makes us a reference in Latin America. All Costa Ricans should be proud of this country achievement which also illustrated the emergence of the province of Guanacaste as an attractive destination for international visitors”, commented César Jaramillo, general manager of Coriport, concessionaire of the terminal.
